Why do we ......

Indian ethnicity, especially Hinduism, is very profound and deep-rooted. It is admired and respected all over the world. Our culture is full of small and sweet traditions, which are quite simple but which carry a divine message in them. Most of the rites and sacraments have some or the other strong wisdom at its foundation. These rituals can be explained in simple terms, but at the same time, if they are followed blindly, without the understanding of the factual basis, they could lead to doubts and blind faith, which casts a shadow on the tradition.

One of the most remarkable characteristic of our great heritage is the paradigm of re-enacting itself according to the reformation of the society. Hundreds of examples exist as a proof, and also is the eradication of many of the discriminating ceremonies like 'satipratha' and 'untouchablitiy' give strong evidence of its unbounded methodology. Without disturbing the foundations of our ethos, Hinduism has always shown broad-mindedness and tolerance towards the progressive adaptations of the new eras and generic transitions. Maybe for this reason itself, the Indian heritage is reputed to be the most mature of the world.

In most of our households, we see traditions being followed, like the lighting of the "Diya", Putting "bindi" on the forehead, "fasting "etc. For several generations, we follow these customs, mostly coz our elders turned them into a legacy, but deep within them, they hold the very foundation of our society and the norms that have helped the society to sustain itself.

For many of my growing up years I have watched my parents following small rituals in our everyday lives and many a times have there been questions arising in my mind, and after a long time searching for answers I have come across some of them. These answers have opened up my eyes to the intricate structure that is the base of our very existence.
Happy Janmashtmi :)
